As Miguel Cotto reunited with Top Rank before his bout versus Delvin Rodriguez in October of 2013, he had pledged his loyalty to Todd duBoef( the president of Top Rank) with whom he had enjoyed a close, personal relationship with. Top Rank had promoted the Puerto Rican to stardom after signing him out of the 2000 Olympics.

After a winless 2012 where he faced Floyd Mayweather and Austin Trout outside the Top Rank banner, he returned to them and notched victories over Rodriguez and then became the middleweight champion of the world with a knockout of Sergio Martinez last June. It was expected that a bout with Mexican star, Saul Alvarez would be next this spring.

Now there are reports coming out that Cotto will be signing a promotional pact with Roc Nation Sports on Thursday. Yes, where there is smoke there is fire.

When reached at his office in Las Vegas, Todd duBoef told Boxingscene.com - "I'm disappointed in their conduct across the board. People can make business decisions and I may not agree with it, but I'll tell you what, when you talk about a relationship - conduct is everything."

As Cotto and his reps turned down a fight with Alvarez (which would've paid him in the neighborhood of $10.5 million) for a period of time there was suddenly radio silence on their end as phone calls and emails from duBoef - who wanted to map out their next move - went unreturned.

''You don't act that way if you know how to handle relationships and it's in your DNA to be professional,"said duBoef.

It was reported that two clients of Top Rank, Brandon Rios and Tim Bradley, were in the running to face Cotto, along with IBF 154-pound titlist, Cornlius Bundrage.

When asked if those two were now off the table, duBoef responded - "Put it this way, I would never, ever, ever, ever dismiss anything on behalf of our duty to what we think is the best for our fighters. I would never, ever, ever, ever dismiss it."

Cotto and Top Rank never formally agreed upon a contract as the boxer returned to the fold in 2013, but instead worked on a fight-by-fight basis.

It's clear that duBoef believes that those in Cotto's inner circle have influenced his decision. It's hard not to think that he's talking about Cotto's legal adviser, Gaby Penagaricano, when he stated:

"If it was a cancer it was in remission. I was able to keep it in remission but eventually it takes over the whole body. I can only keep it in remission for so long."

Been hearing last few weeks that not a lot of people are too fond of Gaby Penagaricano. While Business is Business, this does seem like a shady move on Cotto's end and at least on the surface looks like he's the one who ducked the Canelo fight if he was making $10.5 Mill guaranteed (his biggest payday).

This is interesting. Considering Cotto sells tickets at the Garden, and The Roc is a NY success story, maybe they were made for each other. Being that he's likely burned bridges with HBO, burned bridges with Canelo and GB by default, who's he planning on doing business with? Al Haymon doesn't play nice with Camel and vice versa.

The Puerto Rican Miguel Angel Cotto took a surprise jump Wednesday with lightning to the Big Apple trip.

The reason: to announce his multimillion-dollar alliance with Roc Nation Sports, owned by rapper Jay Z who made his debut in boxing last January 10 with a first event at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Cotto, who is currently promoter and Middleweight Champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), will be officially joined Jay Z to promote several major events this year, and the principal of these will also be the owner shock, which does not have date .

Your join with Jay Z will be held on Thursday at the known 21 Club in Manhattan.

"We are where we are best treated," said Cotto exclusively ESPNDeportes.com.

"This is a partnership between Miguel Cotto Promotions and Rock Nation beyond boxing. It is a gamble to give workshop to our company. We are working dates in Puerto Rico and the United States. A partnership to provide greater workshop boxing, something we have done for the past seven or eight years. "

The rumors gather Cotto and Jay Z surfaced on Wednesday afternoon when the Puerto Rican left for New York, arriving in arrears to the city for several cancellations of flights due to difficult weather conditions in the eastern United States.

But it was the Cotto himself upon arrival at JFK Airport in New York who said all the rumors had surfaced, mainly by statements of the president of Top Rank, Todd duBoef, calling the Puerto Rican of "lacking word".

Before the group Cotto out of Puerto Rico, duBoef had verbal exchange with the legal adviser fighter Peñagarícano Gabriel, who then expressions written in other media described the latter as a "cancer in remission".

The four-time division champion did not hesitate to react to expressions of duBoef, who in multiple events always described his relationship with Puerto Rican and beyond just friendship.

COTTO: TODD "PLAYED, LIED AND MISSED HIS WORD"

According Cotto his move was in response precisely unfulfilled promises by duBoef in the business in which your company is looking to leapfrog.

"I have nothing to talk to Todd duBoef. We came talking long before. Even before the fight with Delvin Rodriguez. We come hearing things that gave us shaking my hand. At the end of the road we receive nothing. I can stay No waiting for the crumbs that Todd wanted to give us. The opportunities can not be missed. And this is bigger than Todd gave us, so we moved, "said the owner of 160 pounds.

"I think the confidence we had for many years been misunderstood. He played, lied and broke his word," said Cotto.

"The word is very important. There he gave it to Gaby (Gabriel Peñagarícano), Hector (Soto) and Bryan (Perez). He went to Miguel Cotto. The decision maker in my group's me. He who has to It is Todd duBoef feel disappointed. The blame must assume the appropriately for their lack of speech, "he added.

IN TALKS FOR NEXT FIGHT

On his next fight, Cotto said he is still in talks and study of several opponents.

But something itself is clear. His next fight will hand Roc Nation.

"This represents a step in the growth of Miguel Cotto Promotions and will take step by step. As a boxer will search for the best names that may appear in the picture. The fight is far away. We are studying names. Seeing what we It should. Roc Nation has an alliance for their bouts with Miguel Cotto.'ll start with number one. So start counting "he said.

It is the second time that Cotto away from Top Rank. The last time we worked together was to fight in which Cotto won the middleweight belt to win by knockout Argentine Sergio 'La Maravilla' Martinez in June 2014.

Cotto is the only one of the elite fighters remaining to announce who will rival this year.

Before signing the fight May 2 in Las Vegas between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, and the official stamp of the duel between 'Canelo' Alvarez and James Kirkland on May 9 in Houston, Texas, Cotto was in apparent loneliness soon is preparing to mitigate.
