A second-degree
battery warrant has been issued for the arrest of boxer Jermain Taylor in an altercation alleged to have occurred earlier this month at a rehabilitation center where Taylor is undergoing a substance-abuse program.
Court records show the warrant was issued by a Pulaski County District judge Thursday. Taylor is reportedly still at the treatment center, a lockdown facility where he was ordered by a judge.
Taylor is facing charges in two separate, earlier incidents: one in January where he is accused of opening fire and threatening a family after a Martin Luther King Jr. parade in Little Rock and one last August where he is accused of
shooting his cousin at Taylor's Pulaksi County home.
A Pulaski County sheriff's office report in the May 13 altercation at the Oasis Renewal Center indicated Taylor had "possibly hit" another resident who was found injured but said he had no recollection of what happened. A witness reported hearing Taylor say to the man, "Why do you keep f***ing with me?"
Capt. Carl Minden, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, said Thursday it's likely the injured man met later with investigators and was able to provide additional details about what happened.
Taylor entered the program in March after his bond on one of the earlier charges was revoked. Trials on both those cases are set later this year.
Taylor is due back in court for a hearing Friday.
