MCNAIRY CO., Tenn. (WMC) - A state animal cruelty investigation has resulted in the arrest of a now-former McNairy County Sheriff’s deputy, who is accused of shooting multiple dogs to death while tasked with ensuring the animals were okay.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, 24-year-old Connor Brackin is charged with seven counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and eight counts of reckless endangerment.

The animals were reportedly the subjects of an animal welfare concern call made on November 4.

Brackin was the responding deputy who arrived at the property in the 8300 block of State Road 199 in Bethel Springs, Tennessee, to check on the dogs.

TBI says Brackin released one of the dogs to the person who made the welfare call, but it wasn’t made clear why.

For reasons unknown, TBI says Brackin began shooting, killing seven dogs on the property.

The state agency was called in to investigate the matter on November 7.

A warrant was issued for Brackin’s arrest on Tuesday. He reportedly turned himself in and has since been released from the McNairy County Jail on bond.
