'Controversial' Showgirls [1995] was a pretty solid movie..

Little background, there was a lot of "controversy" surrounding the release of this film back in '95. Hollywood has always been afraid to market NC-17 movies and for good reason.. they rarely make a lot of money. For example, this movie had a mid-size budget and ended up flopping for the most part..

..but then it became a hit on the HBO circuit. This was before porn got mainstream so you had lil ass kids staying up late at night waiting for their parents to go to bed

It stars Elizabeth Berkley who we all knew as jesse from Saved By the Bell. she wanted to shed that girl next door image.

It also had Gina Gershon lookin sexy in there.. Kyle MacLachlan and his ridiculous fukking haircut

It was directed by the great Paul Verhoeven who sat in the chair for many of my favorites back in the 90s.. RoboCop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers.. he was that dude when it came to satire and I think he's very underrated tbh. He always pushed the line, RoboCop was almost NC-17 too.

The reason I like this movie besides how it's shot, it's just that you didn't see many movies especially back then that gave you the raw on the dirty shyt that go behind the scenes of a profession like being a Showgirl..

i remember watching this at night when the parents were not at home and chasing my brothers to go to sleep

i remember watching the movie ready to get caught by either my parents coming back to early or my brothers running into the living room.

luckily didn't get caught. i remember the excitement of potentially being caught more than the actual movie or story line.
a one tv household was no joke back in the day
