North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Will be starting my tax practice in January but I don't want to blow money on an office space because I want to at least generate some revenue first. I was thinking of using my apartment first. It would be b appointment only 3 to 5 clients a day tops.

I could also do it at the library but I wouldn't have the full setup (ability to print). The first thing I did was reach out to someone I know at my job. He's a pastor so I approached him about offering to do taxes for members of his church at a discount. I could come in and set up a few times a week. I gave him an incentive by offering to do his taxes for free and by making a donation to his church with some of the proceeds.

I really don't want people coming to my crib but I need to start somewhere.

Well I have a few takes on it. I'm a fairly cynical person and expect things to be done in a certain manner.

If you use your apartment make sure your apartment is nice, really clean, and if you have an office it looks professional or if it's your living room give it an office vibe.

Otherwise I would generally think you're not very successful or good at your job, therefore why would I have you do my taxes?

Personally I wouldn't meet you at a library unless I was trying to give you a leg up or didn't know better.
I know I wouldn't want my documents out in the open or discussed in a non private setting. People overhearing you, added chance of things disappearing or getting stolen.

I would also imagine business space is fairly cheap in NJ and you don't need a lot of space. Another thing is I wouldn't imagine you need some prime location. You don't need to start on front street, you can put yourself in any town or city if you don't want to pay a lot.
