Nixiann Downes-Clack, 27, a mother of one child, was killed by Alexander Clack, 34, on their 5th wedding anniversary, after she threatened to leave.
The ex-pats from England appeared to have a perfect life, after moving from Kent to the Caribbean paradise island of Grenada in 2009.
However, trouble in paradise started brewing as the couple decided to hire a 17-year old babysitter for their 1-year old daughter so that Mrs. Downes-Clack could resume working.
Shortly afterwards however, she caught Mr. Clack in their marital bed with the babysitter. She subsequently confronted him and said she wanted a divorce when he picked her up from work. When they got home, he beat her black and blue, before strangling her in front of their daughter. Then Mr. Clack shoved her lifeless body into a suitcase – driving it to a hilltop overlooking Grenada‘s picturesque capital St George’s. He then buried the case in a three-foot-deep-ditch.
Her body was found 5 days later and Clack was arrested and charged with non-capital murder. At his trial at Grenada High Court in November 2015, he pleaded not guilty to non-capital murder.
Clack was found guilty of Mrs Downes-Clack’s murder by a 12-member jury, on December 23 last year.
Clack has appealed against his sentence and conviction, but no date has been set for the hearing.
