Conceptually, Remember the Time is Michael Jackson's greatest video.
When you aint watched MJ Videos in a long time and start with that one it seems like the GOAT. I happen to stumble upon the documentary, and you hear Singleton talking about how he never worked on something as big as that before.
Then when you watch Bad and Thriller right afterwards it seems like something is missing with that video.
And its cause John Singleton's inexperience. Say what you will, but Bad and Thriller had more experienced great directors. You can just see the visual flair of Martin Scorsese and John Landis.
I mean the directing in Bad is just on another level
However, Mike was doing John a solid by giving him that job just off the strength of Boyz N The Hood. I also think the fact Spike Lee had already worked with Prince probably had him resistant. Still I cant help but wonder if Spike Lee directed that video just how visually captivating it could have been.
However, once MJ and Spike got together for, They Dont Care About Us
R.I.P to Singelton though. Not slight to his overall talent as a director.
