Ok I just sold a car and have about three thousand dollars to spend on this music sheit. Can anyone give me a breakdown on what I need to start trying to make beats. I'm thinking I need software(protools/fl studio), synth keyboard, and a recorder. Can anyone tell me some good brands to invest in? Thanks in advance.

If you have an ipad, ipod touch or iphone, I would recommend purchasing the following apps: Beatmaker 2, iMPC, FL Studio, to get used to the workflow before spending hundreds or thousands on equipment just to learn from scratch. These will cost you a total of no more than $50 depending on which device you have. Ipad versions cost more.

I would also recommend downloading GoldWave or Audacity to your computer to chop and edit your sounds and samples. Both are free. and if you don't have one already, create a Dropbox account to easily transfer your songs/samples between your wireless device and computer.

If you don't have an apple device...you can find a refurbished ipad mini for under $300. Still cheaper than jumping out there and buying equipment before you know what you want to do.

IMO, this will also help you know what production style you prefer before spending too much money.

You can check my sig to hear some of my music...I made all of these using a combination of the software I listed above. And I'm not even that nice yet, but it will give you an idea of the possibilities.

If I can give you some real honest advice, do not spend anywhere near all your money on equipment as a complete newb. It's real easy to fall into the trap of thinking buying a lot of shyt is gonna mean anything for your music, but as a complete newb I'd recommend getting a cheap midi controller keyboard and downloading a demo of some of the software that's popular ie FL studio, ableton, etc...

If you want to try something like Maschine, which is more hands on, I'd recommend picking up a used one, get the Mk1, and play around with it. Can probably find one for $300 or less.

It's tempting to spend that bread, but trust me bro, if you go all in too early you gonna feel shytty as hell when you're selling half your shyt 6 months later.
