1994 basically making a song talking about how hip hop was fukked up and was getting classic albums from every coast and every type of rap from gangsta to conscious. He was the template for those okayplayer lames who shyt on any none rappity rap elevator music.

"used to love her? mad that we fukked her p*ssy whipped bytch with no common sense"

that was well deserved, bruh been lame since he left Chicago.

Common has tried to say in later years that he wasn't disrespecting gangsta rap...but he was.

Like, he didnt HAFTA say "lettin' all these GOOFIES do her"...ain't no way he didn't think cats was gonna make that correlation, he ain't that stupid.

It damn sure wasn't FLATTERING praise, especially if you watch that part in the video.

The golden era ended Dec 1992

93-94 was full of wack shyt (mostly from the west coast TBH) that in 2019 people think is dope because the bar is so low now

For every illmatic or ready to die you had ten bullshyt g-funk albums with wack lyrics pretending to be a super gangsta

Common was on point shyt was getting beyond corny

You had to be there. Every album dropping wasn’t a classic like history revises it to be. This was also the first era of the fake MC who fabricated their life to sell records

I remember some chick out on the west coast, she was fine too, got exposed for being a catholic school girl back in the day. CB4 wasn’t a fairy tale, cats just had good beats back then.

common was right, and so was Will Smith, gangsta rap was hot trash for the most part, for every classic there was as ten albums of hot shyt and the music has aged horribly

that's how hip hop and every genre of music has always been. That's why classic albums are classic, they are rare. When Rakim, Kane, Slick rick, etc was dropping the majority of albums were trash.

Nah, the genre of gangsta rap is trash, I mean when you think about 94 the only gangsta rap song that stands the test of time is Regulators, which is barely a gansgta record

When you look at Tupac's classic records none of them are gangsta songs

Changes, Keep your Head up, I ain't mad at ya, I get around, California Love, So many Tears, Dear Mama, etc

ain't no putting gangsta party when they listening to Pac lmao

The Gangsta rap sound trash, you play any of them albums right now the shyt is not listenable, you not gonna bump no Mc Eiht with the windows down lmao, maybe Straight Up Menace but thats it

Gangsta Rap was too vulgar, I mean if you compare those records to rap today, they will not play that shyt in any establishment I mean Po Pimp by Do or Die is way more vulgar than the music today so let that sink through your head

You can still play Tribe Called Quest Music and not look like a damn fool

One thing I noticed listening to 90s rap is that a lot of rappers already saw where hip hop was headed and were trying to warn listeners. Gang Starr was talking about record companies pushing untalented rappers and not understanding the art form as early as 1991. EPMD talked about needing to be commercial to get lots of airplay and the possibility of rap becoming run by politics in the future.

Looking back, it was definitely the golden age of rap, but I'm pretty sure the people in it recognized that certain problems were starting to pop up. Wasn't there somewhat of a backlash against gangsta rap?
