When did Logan become James Howlett and Erik Magnus Lehnsherr become Max Eisenhardt?

I stopped reading comics in the late 90's...but it seems like the 2000s just said fukk everything that had been happening for the last 40-50 years...not just this, but this is one of the most glaring reinventions that I've seen.

That's Wolverines back story as james howlett, no magneto. It was recieved pretty poorly at first and yes it is canon.

I read it a few years after it came out so I can't tell you how it was received. But that shyt sucked. They were better off keeping his origin a mystery instead of the wack shyt they decided to go with
