The art was fantastic but the story was lacking and to fast paced.

As per the deaths, it's more realistic for people to die out of the blue, not everyone gets a big heroic moment to go out on.

The way they did Doom took me out of it

I think Marvel used Jeph Loeb as a cleanup guy. Someone who'll do the continuity dirty work who doesn't mind being hated by the CB reading masses

Never read the Ultimates line, but wasn't this supposed the END that line of comics... and then they kept going for 2 or 3 more years?

Jeph Loeb is one of the worst writers ever. He was doing awful stories before this. I can't believe he still gets work to this day.

It was disaster porn and the Ultimate Universe never really recovered.
I liked the idea of (literally and figuratively) upending the world. The premise was solid. The motivation for running the event was solid. Heck, the artwork was even solid! The execution of the plot, and the scripting seem to be what most people hate, and I agree, this was the worst part of the event.

The artwork was by David Finch. So that was always going to be solid. I didn't mind the concept of upending the world. That was the point of that universe. To do what couldn't, or should have, been done in the 616. I think they it went a bit too crazy with the amount of deaths. Especially the X-Men.
