after getting diagnosed with patellar tendinitis, i was told a muscular imbalance in my quads (left quad was looking like captain american before the transformation ) was either the cause of or the result of the injury.

so I decided to go ham on the squats to get my left quad up to par. but whenever i was doing the squats, as i was coming up, i could always feel my weight shifting to my right leg, which would negate the whole point of the squats for me.

so i remembered one time when i was struggling with the bench press (left arm was :flabbynsick: ) , an old head told me to bench with dumb bells until i evened out my strength in my arms.

tl;dr - would it be benificial to do lunges and concentrate on my left leg, or should i keep trying with the squats

TBH, to get a guaranteed EFFECTIVE and THOROUGH workout, working out with dumbbells will balance out your muscles. There are no free weights better than dumbbells.

As for your problem, do your regular squats, try to even out as much as possible. Then after that, do the one legged lunges to get your left leg up to speed.
