This is going to be interesting. Msnbc and cnbc ate off the REAL news assets they got for free from NBC. They're all probably going to start looking more like what they really are without a legit journalism wing to rely on.

What does spin off even mean? That corporate jargon gives me a headache.

A spinoff occurs when a corporation divests itself of one or multiple divisions. The parent company often keeps a large ownership stake in the spinoff, but the new entity is an independent corporation with its own officers and board of directors, and its shares trade separately from those of the parent.

The climate could get a lot more favorable for huge mergers if Lina Khan leaves FTC, which is probably certain.
This is interesting. Maybe they’re throwing out some bait hoping a billionaire wants to buy them to control the narrative. Thats the only thing I can think of that makes this make sense. They hold a ton of shares still and make a killing without having to give up NBC as a whole.

The election was two weeks ago and the bottom fell out that fast :dahell:

All these news networks wanted Trump back to save their ratings and look how it backfired :wow:

I expect to see a lot of this, the fox vs dominion suit sets precedent for cable media liability - despite the fact it was warranted. Spinning off the cable media portion of your company is a fancy way of isolating the parent from liability in an age of hot take media during the administration of one of the most media hostile and litigation weaponizing administration in history.

No MSNBC is going to be fascinating

But like @K-Apps said if this entity buys Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD) then CNN and MSNBC become merged.

I think there’s an opening here for more populist Dems. We saw how powerful legacy cable networks and the broadcast networks were in getting Biden the nomination in 2020 when he was floundering.
