can't speak for anyone else, but I was lucky enough to have mentors in each of the fields I ended up pursuing that showed me the ropes before I went out on my own and did my own thing. There's nothing new under the sun. Anything that you'd like to do or have a desire to accomplish, there's someone out there who's already done it and is willing to help you follow in their footsteps. Just gotta find them.

you sound like a hater. get your money up, broke nikka. you don't need to go to college or work for someone else to start a business and succeed. you just need an idea that people are willing to buy.

While this is a pretty douchey way to say it, but, you're not wrong.

Let's also add that the vast majority of small businesses fail in their first year.

I'm all for encouraging people to go for it on their own, but be smart and strategic about it brehs...

you couldn't be more wrong.

the idea is the easy part. Implementing that idea and getting it moving in the right direction to where it becomes a profitable business venture for you is something completely different.

If coming up with ideas was the hardest part, there wouldn't be nearly as many stoners still getting high on their momma's couch all day, they would have became rich with all of the random shyt they've thought about while high

95% of business fail cause they tried to sell something people didn't want or need  Niccas open up a hip hop clothing store in Whiteville, Idaho and wonder why they go outta business in 16 months. I encourage people who want to become self-made to start businesses that will succeed. It's not that difficult to figure out what will not make money.

i'm not arguing that a proper business plan isn't critical. of course it is. but the idea, the service or product you're marketing, is what matters first and foremost. plenty of people with expertise and business acumen fail at starting their own business, primarily because they're not giving anything that the people want. so, knowing HOW to run a business is not more important than knowing WHAT your business' purpose is.

most small businesses don't become profitable until 5-8 years. profit isn't what you should even concern yourself with at the beginning. building a relationship with an audience that will grow and continue to seek out your product or service is what you should pay attention to at the outset of your venture. the profit will come in time.

when most venture capitalists or those with seed money look to invest in a business, they're not necessarily wondering if the entrepreneurs seeking them out are expert businessmen. no, they want to see that they have - as i said - an IDEA that they believe can be sold for massive profit.

the idea is definitely the most important part.

So anyone who's not a business owner is wasting their life? :patrice:

The coli, where anything other than hyperbole doesn't matter.

No disrespect to you, my family or friends...but you couldn't pay me 50K a year to work til I'm 65 so I can retire with just enough to pay bills and buy groceries. Yet, most people accept this fate. Time is the most valuable gift and people are wasting it working 40-60 hours a week for someone else for 40 plus years.

Fair enough, but there is to more to it than the concept of supply and demand. If there is a market for something, odds are there is already someone else in that market. Perhaps they're missing their consumer base for some reason.

And let's also be honest: running your own business is hard work. In fact, I'd say the hardest working people I know are small business owners (in contrast, the laziest are gov't workers in my experience).

If someone isn't prepared to really work their ass off, and in turn often sacrifice things like a social life or family, then they're SOL.

true..I should have added..succesful business owners..

I'm not even trying to hate fam.Im all about building, but I think neegaz need to realize that starting a business from scratch is one of the hardest things to do in teh world. Maintaining it is easy once you have a profit making routine.

But for people to sit here and tell others that getting a degree is dumb and that working for someone else is dumb is them just showing their ignorance, because chances are you will lack the tools to start your own business if you never worked for anyone else to gain some type of technical or administrative advantage that you can translate into a business competitive advantage. You not wanting to work for someone else, is not reason enough to say fukk school.
if anything it should be great motivation for you to go to school, and amass so much knowledge, that should you come across or gather the enormous capital that it takes to start a business, you are able to successfully offer some kind of product or service that will make you money nad allow you to be self employed.

but this is the-coli....
