I've been going to a community college, this is my 3rd year, and I've got a decent gpa, like a 2.6, anyway it's time to transfer to a university, I need to choose some to apply to by Monday. What I'm wanting to major in is architecture and minor in civil engineering. What are some good schools? I've got San Francsisco State in mind and maybe Chicago tech; what else should I be looking at?

I'm sorry to tell you breh, but a 2.6 GPA is not decent especially if you're trying to transfer (unless your cv is impressive). Schools lower the bar for transfers if you're within the same district. If you live in SF, it shouldn't be a problem though.

shyt, I used to think a 3.0 was decent till I found out many schools and employers throw your shyt out if you don't have what they're looking for:damn:

I am not trying to be mean or be an a$$hole, but a 2.6 is not decent.

In today's world a 3.0 is consider to be decent. If you want to major in something like engineering you need to have at least a 3.5 to be competitive.

Did you graduate with an associates? Did you fail any classes? My advice would be to retake some of the classes you failed or got below a B to increase your GPA.

Tbh I don't see how a 2.6 isn't decent when most universities admission acquire a 2.0. Now I didn't say I couldn't raise it or better it, but then again that's none of you worries, like I asked in the first place, "what should I be looking at?"

I've got UIC (university of Illinois Chicago) and SFSU. @TYBG @kbtwofour

The minimum requirement is a 2.0. Just because they say the minimum doesn't mean they accept students with a 2.0.

When was the last time you heard of a university accepting a transfer student to a very good university with a 2.0-2.5?

Breh, you don't have to get defensive when it's you who is asking for help.

UIC? Save your money on the application because I already know they will say no. Most of their transfer students have a GPA of 3.5.

What should you be looking for? That's something you should discuss with a counselor. Visit the school, look at their ranking, look at their graduation rate, etc.

The answer was kind of implied in my post:mjpls: To be blunt, you need to look at low tier schools with your major not being impacted. Assuming you're from cali, CSU DH and CSU LA takes in almost anyone:manny:

luckily SFSU is not a very good university and will probably take him. OP why would you want to go there?

I've actually heard of a few cases, if I hadn't then I wouldn't have mentioned them in the first place.

As far as getting defensive, I know I'm getting defensive, who wouldn't be when they've spent 3 years at a cc and their having to apply for schools with not having anyone have ever really gone to school in your family. Of course I'm going to be frustrated, and when I got nikkas telling me my gpa sucks, yeah no duh dumb asses but instead of telling me what I cannot do why don't you tell me what I can do or even give me some encouraging words.

Damn. I know once I get into a school I'll flourish, I've been trying to work my ass off recently and it isn't easy, but I've still got to finish this quarter, the next quarter, and I'm thinking about going during the summer.

As for asking my counselor she spoke to me n told me to pick schools out and to see her on Monday, which is why I'm asking yaw.

Not from Cali, from Washington. And if that's the case I'll just go to WSU or PSU.

Thanks, good idea. But once I get my aa financial aid won't pay for anymore classes. I'm figuring I just stick it out improve over the summer and retake some classes and then after that transfer if I can. Well I mean I can transfer already. Tbh going to a top tier school isn't that big of a deal. I feel after I go to a university I can transfer to a nicer school if need be, I just want to move on with me life.

I am, I'm worried about moving away from home and not having enough money as well as going to a school that's suitable for me. I graduated high school with a 1.3 gpa, I never learned how to study. I'm just naturally intelligent, which is why I'm in calculus now, I just have a problem which is basically learning how to study, focus, and be organized. Which explains my gpa. But I'm not worried about a great school, I'm just excited to go to school.

And bc my school just won't allow it man.

3.4 is considered descent these days. Not 3.0.

Anything below 3.4 is garbage without a top tier school brand name.

with a 2.6, you'll just end up in a state school, and then nobody is going to hire you unless you somehow raise your GPA to 3.7+.

The key factor here is your race and your family situation. You can get a lot of pity out there if you come from a low income "urban" ethnic group. If you are a under represented minority, I would play that angle to the maximum. It will work.

A bachelor's degree doesn't mean shyt, and nobody cares about you or your personal achievements.

Take serious look into your life and figure out what is best for you. Rad-tech is only 1.5 half years of school for you, but you'll NEVER get into a good Rad-tech program at CC.
