Hello,

In the other thread (Here and Here) I casually pitched this idea for all programmers, software developers, game designers, graphics designers, musicians, etc. on the coli to pool their talents together to participate in various creative and technical projects. Projects can range from computer software, video games, art projects, music projects, 3D animation movies, etc. This is an unsanctioned (not approved by the admins) collaboration initiative that combines the skillset of the people here.

It's very easy to participate. To start you merely post a project of yours which you feel would benefit tremendously from the contribution of others. The files pertaining to your project must be hosted somewhere and preferably utilizes some sort of version control software to keep track of all the changes people make. For programmers the most common place would be a version control app like github(Build software better, together) or bitbucket(Bitbucket — The Git solution for professional teams). Then someone else downloads your files and make their contributions into the project.

Q: Breh...how do you know the coli has all of these talented people?
A: Threads have been made on here that touched on various subjects:

Programmers

You could use this thread to discuss existing and/or future projects, possible collaborations, give advice, tips, etc. I've posted this here in TLR for greater visibility. (I fear this venture would be unsuccessful if it were in Higher Learning or The Arcadium)

Here is the template you must use when you publish your project:

Project Name: (Name of the project you're working on)
Category: [Art][Music][Programming][Multimedia][etc.]
Skill Level: (A general overview of the knowledge required to participate) [Beginner][Intermediate][Advanced]
Language: (Applicable to programmers) [C++][C#][Python][Javascript][etc.]
Library: (Applicable to programmers) [SDL][SFML][DirectX][OpenGL][etc.]
Software Package: [Photoshop][Gimp][Blender][3DS Max][Unity][Unreal Engine][Visual Studio][etc.]
Description: (Short description about the project)
Source: (Project files, source code, etc.)(required)
Media: (This is a screenshot or short video showcasing your work so far)(optional)

Alright guys. For the time being I will post rudimentary projects just as a starting point. I will further develop these projects and publish more complex stuff later on. Reading other people's code can be challenging some times so I will try to keep it simple. I coded these really quickly. So it's 'quick and dirty' and has no comments.

Project Name: CustomBoxBreh
Category: Programming
Skill Level: Beginner
Language: C++
Library: None
Software Package: Code::Blocks (Code::Blocks)
Description: Very simple program that receives user input and displays a box onto the console window. If you're just now learning c++ then this is ideal for you.
Source: GitHub - pikadadon/CustomBoxBreh: Just another repository

Project Name: CIT_Pong
Category: Programming
Skill Level: Intermediate
Language: C++
Library: SDL2 (Simple DirectMedia Layer - Homepage)
Software Package: Code::Blocks (Code::Blocks)
Description: This project doesn't have anything yet. Just a simple paddle that can be controlled by the user with the up and down arrow keys. Nothing yet. Will further develop as time goes on and turn it into a full-fledged pong game.

How about y'all pool your resources together to make the site better instead? :francis:

Do any of you brehs know of any reputable, low-cost iOS development houses?

I'd prefer domestic, but I'm open to something international.

I have an idea I want to get moving ASAP. Just need to get the minimum viable product. I can tweak from there.

Assuming you are suggesting that we completely overrhaul the forum software currently being used (XenForo) and write a custom one that could take years, and that's with a full fleet of experienced devs.

Coli's main issue is that the servers are shyt. But I heard the site's been transferred to a new data center.

Holy shyt, I'm bookmarking this thread. Friend of mine was convinced that we could never get our video game off the ground with only hiring blacks:blessed:

Category: Mobile Game
Skill Level: Whatever comes after beginner
Language: C#, Probably some mongodb, haven't decided yet
Library: ???
Software Package: Unity3D, Probably AWS as well
Description: When I get started, I'll include information
Source: nothing as of the moment

When I first thought of this idea I thought we would all take a 'hardcore' approach to software development. What I mean by that is coding things from the ground up. But a poster in the other thread brought up how he's working on a 2D beat 'em up using unity (Unity - Game Engine). Growing up I used to look down on people who utilized these drag & drop 'easy mode' software development tools (RPG maker comes to mind). To me it's weird that someone is able to implement a complicated feature like volumetric shadows and not understand the math behind them:

physically-based-and-unified-volumetric-rendering-in-frostbite-50-638.jpg

1_volume.jpg

But I sort of understand the necessity of such tools as computer games are becoming more complex. In the year 2016 I need to let go of my old dinosaur way of thinking and embrace the modern convenience:

I follow rules, do the knowledge, swallow jewels
A form of teachin', from the streets never taught in school
You caught you lose, a wise man utilize tools
Solitude certifies all moves
So I walk the path of this old dread, that lead me off the Ave
Absorbin' fast, learnin' from nikkas I lost in the past
It's poison plays in these foul days
Housin' cops & they foul ways, and walkin' through a wild maze
Holdin' my brain, tryin' to maintain
Sleet, hail, snow, or rain, I guess the game'll never change

I will be working on projects that will fall in either two schools of thought. "Hardcore" mode which will be code-intensive, ground up approach. While "easy mode" will utilize drag & drop tools such as unreal engine, unity, etc. If you're a programmer and you're trying to learn then I think it would be best to follow my 'hardcore' projects. You'll be reading someone else's code and trying to implement your own features in the program.
