Hi, what are the pros/cons of your career and would you honestly tell a younger brother or cousin to follow the route you chose?

Naw not really. Not about the job in particular. They all work for like companies like Comcast and att. The stuff they do complain about is how long they gotta work and customer having shytty houses and inner stuff within the company that wold happen anywhere else like racism and favortism stuff like that.

My dad is a part-time residential electrician. He would mainly do minor jobs like installing ceiling fans, light fixtures, doorbells, flood lights, etc. But he would also do whole new construction homes as well every now and then.

Your best way to get started is work for another electrican as an apprentice to learn the skills....then when you're ready take the certs to become a master electrican and hire other guys to work under you.

You better get in that union. Linemen make 40+hr and the benefits are great. Dangerous job though.

I’m about to start the 4th year of my apprenticeship (5 year program) and I feel like I’m not on the same level of other 4th years. My experience has been mostly working with M.I. and gear rooms. I haven’t even really ran MC yet… Any electricians have any tips, Books to read, websites, etc to gain knowledge?
