Have you not seen us talking about how those jobs are increasingly difficult to find? What experience and skills do you have?

Without any knowledge of the Houston area, I would recommend someone that asked me your question in my city to apply to Geico.

For the most part sales experience. My internships have been more geared to data analysis

Your school should have some type of career services website. What is your degree in?

I think insurance company sounds about right for you so far

Are you looking for a 40hr a week type job then?
If so the why not get into something field related? It just makes sense. With that background i'd imagine some type of accounting clerk would fit you well?

I mean even after you get an advanced degree (I'm assuming in the same field) it'll be better to have SOME experience in a semi related or related field vs a non related field.

Subs because I am in the EXACT same position. Just graduated with a degree in Econ and looking at grad schools and the job market.

I've seen some research positions at the Fed in SF that are geared towards folks who want to go to grad school. It'd definitely be a long shot for me but I figure the worst they can say is no.

I'm working retail for almost 13 an hour right now and it's not much. I'd say shoot for more

Why is it a bad major? Just curious

All the grad schools for econ want math majors. Its not as practical as finance or business. With the right electives it can be better than them though. Its 'bad' because its one of the default majors for people that do not know what they want to do. HR will see a lot of similar resumes from recent grads. And when you look at the actual upper level classes the information is less useful in the information you got from your first micro/macro classes. I love economics but changed my major out of econ/math to cs because of these issues. You can still get business jobs but it doesnt give you what I would call discernible skills.

Any local call center will start you off at at least $11 per hr if you beef up your resume' right :manny:
You talk on the phone all day (make sure it's inbound) but hell at least you're around women the whole time :manny:
