The bad news just keeps coming for CNN.

May was the network's worst month for total viewers during primetime in over 20 years. CNN drew an average of just 389,000 primetime viewers from April 30 to May 27. In comparison, MSNBC drew an average of 674,000 total viewers, while Fox News boasted an average of 1,692,000 total viewers.

It was also the network's second-worst month in primetime for viewers in the key demographic since October 1991.

Things were especially bad at the 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. timeslots. Piers Morgan drew an average of 417,000 total viewers and 117,000 viewers age 25-54 — the lowest numbers the 9 p.m. slot has seen in two decades. Erin Burnett received just 89,000 viewers in the key demo at 7 p.m.

The news is the latest development in CNN's worsening ratings struggle. The network had its lowest-rated month in over a decade in April. That prompted management to issue stern warnings about improving numbers. However, the recent dismal results are not surprising, given that the network hit a 20-year primetime low during the week of May 14.

CNN is a piece of shyt. There's two components they would need to come back up. The first is superfluous and a sadly reflective of the times we live in. The second is basically doing what a news organization is supposed to do.

1. Get some entertaining personalities as pundits. I hate to say it, but unfortunately that is what is needed for ratings nowadays...sad.

2. Start actually doing investigative journalism. Be the watchdog you're supposed to be. Dig and report the facts as they are. Stop protecting the industries that advertise on your network and the politicians who give you access. Stop letting guests get away with spewing their talking points unchallenged. Stop trying to appear nonpartisan. Stop giving wall-to-wall coverage to every dumb fake controversy like Hillary Rosen's comments.

A good example of someone who combines one and two is Cenk Uygur.

cnn is stubborn in their thinking that the truth to every debate lies in the middle of the left and right.

i've only seen them take a hard stance on one issue, the birther argument. even that, it took them months to finally expose how stupid the issue was. they seem paranoid to look like they are leaning one way on an issue. the problem is in most debates there is actually a right and a wrong but like you said they never take a stance instead they let politicians come on one by one and spew nonsense.

Yeah, for example they let Romney hacks go on and on touting his tax plan and bashing Obama for the deficit without pointing out that independent nonpartisan analysis shows that it would add $3 trillion to the deficit over the next 10 years.

That's what a news organization is supposed to do...give the people the facts. But they're too concerned with appearing neutral to politics to the point where they are neutral to reality.
