I would say it doesn't matter that much as long as you have a solid consistent workout program your running through.

Dirty Bulk:
The upside would be that you can obviously eat whatever you want as long as you're in a caloric surplus.
The downside would be that eating unhealthy overtime can take away energy and cause a larger bf%. In terms of energy I didn't even realize how valuable the micronutrients in healthy foods were. Just making a few changes in my diet (which was already somewhat healthy) and adding some vitamins gave me more energy, boosted my immune system, and helped keep my joints good for workouts. Dirty bulking and reaching a high body fat can be hard for some people to turn back around and maintain all that muscle over a long cut.

Clean Bulk:
The upside is you are your tracking your caloric surplus only to put on muscle as you go and not really add much body fat at all. You can maintain your physique if your already in good shape. Once your done bulking there should be little to no weight to cut.
The downside would be you having to track macros and be precise with what your eating as you go up almost like cutting.

Htwon summed it up

Dirty bulk is fun of course lol, but so easy to get as fat as shyt and then the cut is sooooooo long

Pretty sure an extra 500 to1k cals is more than enough to bulk, just increase carb portions

I did a "dirty" bulk about two years ago where I just ate whatever I wanted and didn't track anything, and while I definitely made some good strength gains (except on bench), I felt and looked like shyt.

People telling me I'm getting chunky. :flabbynsick:

Walking and feeling my gut jiggle:flabbynsick:

Wearing my pants high up so my man ponch doesn't hang out:flabbynsick:

This time, I've been doing a much slower reverse diet and bulk, where I track my calories and slowly increase them every couple of weeks, and I've seen my size and strength increase without putting on much weight at all.

Only time you should dirty bulk imo is when you're first starting out lifting.

Once you reach your recommended ideal body weight/are content with your appearance, then do a clean bulk.

From personal experience, dirty bulking will have you ending up with a big gut:hubie:

It's really how about how big the surplus is.

And it's more then likely going to be larger if you not eating clean. But that's up to you.

Dirty Bulking is just an excuse to eat anything you want and being lazy on counting calories.

Clean Bulking will save you more time in the long run and you'll look good year round.
