I'm from NYC and was decades late before I heard "Soul Food" from Goodie Mob.
It is a very dope album. I did not expect such a dope album based off of the "Who's That Peekin At My Window" song.

Reasonable Doubt...a little late (97....became a jay fan from vol 1 and went back)

illmatic (97.after i heard iww)

the infamous (like 2020 or so....classic)

captial punishment (finally listened around 2021 or so...it was cool)

liquid swords (in like 2020...from the wu i only listened to the wu, ghost, meth, and rae back in the day)

soul on ice (around 2017...amazing album)

it takes a nation to..(around 2015...i didnt like pe as a kid so...took a long time...amazing album)

paid in full (around 2015)

90 percent of south and west coast classics from 1991 onward i was on in real time. The production appealed to me more (generally speaking)

Yes!, I totally forgot about Soul On Ice. Its another album I always see with high regards and have never checked out. I will do so tomorrow.

I heard "Criminal Minded" by KRS1 for the first time a few years ago and was surprised with how dope the production was.

Thanks to The Source back in 2002 I went back and listened to all the NY classics they re-rated 5 mics that I didn't listen to before.

Criminal Minded
By All Means Necessary
Straight Out The Jungle
Critical Beatdown
Breakin' Atoms

Some of them have become my all time favorites especially BDP.

Pretty much all of the essential Eastcoast classics from Wu, Nas, Biggie, Jay, Mobb Deep, etc.

I grew up on No Limit, Cash Money, Memphis Underground Rap, and 2Pac…basically whatever my uncle was listening to, that’s what I knew as far as full albums until late middle school/early high school when I started burning cds and discovering other shyt.

I'm not gonna lie.

I didn't fukk with "mainstream" west coast for a looooooooooong time because I swore all the shyt sounded like those three beats up there.

Which is why I only listened to "Dogg Food" early this year and cursed myself for a fool. shyt is on my GOAT album (rap) list right now.

that post is from 2015
