In an interview with IGN, Chronicle scribe Max Landis told them that the last draft he sent to Fox was really dark. Landis responded to speculation that Fox didnt like the script by saying, They liked my script. Its just a really dark script.
During the interview, Landis also said:
The truth is when you have a movie that was as successful as Chronicle was, its not as quick of a process. There are a lot more voices coming in and saying This is what the sequel should be because theres a bigger expectation and a bigger fear of failure. And thats really whats going on with Chronicle 2′.
The first Chronicle film was made on a budget of $12 million and went on to make $126 million worldwide.
Landis continued:
[Helmer] Josh [Trank] is directing Fantastic Four. Im doing a hundred other movies. Chronicle 2′ has become this question of How do we all make a movie that we all respect?. And thats true to what Chronicle is. Theres no one at the studio who wants to make a bad movie. They all want to make a good movie just as much as I do. Were not fighting.
Landis emphasizes that everyone wants the best possible product. The writer is optimistic that the film will happen and he ended his interview with IGN by saying that he is 60-75% sure that it will be a pretty damn good movie.
