More than 20 million cameras have been installed across China in what is being dubbed as the world's 'most advanced video surveillance system'.

The cameras are said to be part of the communist country's Sky Net operation - the country's bid to track down fugitives
Critics are concerned there may be some ulterior motive however - and conspiracy theorists especially have an issue with the fact that Skynet is the name of the artificial intelligence system that brings about the end of the world in the Terminator movie franchise.

The Chinese devices will certainly use artificial intelligence technology to identify pedestrians and motorists.

An example of how the cameras work was shared on Chinese social network Weibo , by K618.CN, and shows how tabs would come up next to people, indicating facts about them like their gender and what they are wearing.

According to the MailOnline , the same technology can work out what cars are on the roads.

Information gathered will be shared with the police if it matches descriptions of criminals in the database.

In 2015, Business Insider reported that Operation Sky Net marked China's desire to ramp up the hunt for fugitives, restricting financial channels and coordinating government departments to target the fugitives and those who help them.
