Ric Flair's whole championship career was based around that rule and it made him the ultimate heel because it pissed off fans who were desperate for the face to win the belt.
NWA/WCW used it too much and screwed up the payoff with certain wrestlers though. Dudes like Barry Windham, Nikita Koloff and even Junkyard Dog should have gotten title changing wins over Ric.

I could've sworn the NWA had the rule that belts could change on DQ, unless they changed that to copy WWF. They would overuse Dusty finishes though.

Exactly, when these marks out here rooting for the heel instead of the face, it's an easy way to get cheap heat and go over as a heel. Should be done more often.

Nah, you couldn't win on DQs in the NWA...they also had that rule where throwing your opponent over the top rope got you disqualified and Flair would be getting his ass kicked and then toss Dusty or Magnum TA over the top rope just to save his belt.
