Saw this last night, was kinda debating between this and 'Lawless', but ended up going with this. I loved this movie, at this point, it is in my top 5 easy, it has been a slow year, and a lot is coming this fall/winter, but for now, easily, one of the better movies I've see all year.
Rashida Jones, who I only tenuously knew of, as the girlfriend in 'I Love You Man', is amazing. Funny, smart, cute, sexy, I was beyond impressed, and she cowrote the movie. She wasn't that cute to me in 'I Love You Man', but here, I thought she was gorgeous. And hilarious. Just a great character. The script is funny, the dialogue is fantastic, the supporting characters are perfect. Will Mccormack is particularly funny. It manages to be funny, sad, realistic, comical, and fantastical at the same time, maintaining it's balance, and tone. There were some great shots towards the end too, unexpected beautiful scenery and cinematography, esp. in a romantic comedy. Andy Samburg kills this performance, I haven't seen him in much, my boy raved about that one retarded movie he was in a few years ago, but I didn't see it. Similar to Seth Rogen in this years 'Take This Waltz', he nails it as a comedic actor doing a semi serious role.
Could go on and on, I doubt this is for everyone, but it worked on all levels for me, I would also caution that the Jones character is the central one, and she carries more screen time then anyone else. Rashida Jone is talented as hell, and I think she will do a lot in the business.
