Catfight plays off 2 characters( Sandra Oh and Anne Heche) who were friends/rivals in college and never liked each other. Though the film doesn't go so much in their past, it focuses on the current/future paths they take where they meet again after decades of not seeing each other. Oh's character is a trophy wife who drinks too much and is married to a rich cac who is secretly unhappy with his marriage and is or possibly gay. Heche character is a struggling artist who can't get her( sick demented) paintings to sell and his lesbian girlfriend is unhappy with her work. All things change after the Oh and Heche character battle it out at a huge job party and it turns both lives upside down.
What works in this film is the extreme awkwardness of the characters interactions. Oh and Heche really look and act like they don't like each other. Their acting of these characters lives also work in great detail which is extremely believable, especially since Heche use to be a dyke. Both characters are selfish, mean spirited and flat out bytches.
What also works is the political satire which brings out throughout the film of policies a "Trump Like character" would do for the world that is created behind the plot and character lives. It's heavy undertones hit at War( WW3) and policies surrounding things of that nature. Undertones of healthcare, death, poor vs rich, alcoholic, lesbianism, racism, narcissistic individuals and many more.
