what happened to Casey Veggies signing? im pretty sure he already signed and they're just waiting to announce it.

:mjpls:

I'm tired of these fake nikkas pretending to be indy rappers when they ain't. this dude is signed to a major (that's hush hush at the moment) and is also under the Roc umbrella. on top of that, his dad used to be Jay-Z bodyguard and you can actually see him (casey veggies dad) in the Girls Girls Girls music video. Rap is fake as fukk my brehs

If these guys are getting buzz and gaining fans without having to fly their label colors that's still good for them.

All that "plant" shyt doesn't mean anything if the product is still the major draw. Jay-Z could "plant" V-Nasty but if the shyt is wack it's wack...labels just doing what they gotta do, that whole "plant" idea isn't some huge betrayal. Why should a fan care about that anyway

That said this guy is just a name I hear from hipsters every so often..don't expect much. Maybe he's writing for people

Yeah, I don't care whose backing an artist as long as they make good shyt.

If it came out that Dre gave Kendrick a big budget for Section.80, would that make me not like the album. Nope.

I just think its corny how these dudes throw out smokescreens. like how Wiz was signed to atlantic right after the warner deal fell through. they tried to play it off and push him as a nikka doing it all on his own as part of the appeal despite a big machine being firmly behind him, making him hot.

shyts fraudulent breh. i got nothing against kendrick for being signed to aftermath and fronting, but i do think its kind wack especially when there is really is dudes out there trying to make a name for themselves with no machine behind em. meanwhile these dudes receiving extra boosts on the low.

its like the labels think we'll respect the artists more if they hide behind the scenes and pretend to not play a part. its good marketing but i still cant help but :mjpls: and I aint hating on casey grind btw. Peas and Carrots been at it for a while so props to them. but this shyt been happened cuz i reported on it nearly a whole year ago when sohh was still up and strong.

Kendrick has been signed to Aftermath for a while now is what he's saying. Kendrick being on games album and that song being a single was no coincidence, he was signed to aftermath and interscope was pushing him.

I'd say it started with drake. They were fronting like he wasn't signed for a long time, even made up some bullshyt bidding war to drive up the hype. Reality was he was signed cash money since so far gone dropped. Other labels saw this was a success and have been copying this blueprint since.

Pretty sure he got noticed by Dre somewhere between Overly Dedicated dropping and Section 80 being made. Might have even been after Section 80 dropped if you account for the fact that everyone in TDE got distribution from Interscope along with Kendrick signing to Aftermath. From their perspective Kendrick might have been the only one they wanted so it might have took awhile to negotiate the deal. Either way I don't see how it matters. Section 80 still wasn't distributed by anyone other than TDE, he still got all the independent money for it, and most importantly, it's still a dope album.

And Jay Rock had songs with Lil Wayne, Game, and a bunch of dudes long before the deal or even the Strange Music deal. Did that mean he was somehow already signed to Aftermath as well then got dropped or something?

Well Wayne loves Tech N9ne so that may be why he gave Jay Rock a verse.

well the casey veggies -> roc nation thing has been in the works for a while and we all knew that anyway.

labels have been secret signing people for a while now (OFWGKTA is probably the most obvious of the past few years imo). its a lot less sinister than it seems. you as the artist have to garner that grassroots following that makes them want to market and push your projects so it isnt all a wash.
