Back in October, former interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit was too focused on recovery to worry about matchmaking.
Now nine months removed from tearing his ACL and meniscus fighting Tyron Woodleyat UFC 171, Condit says he wouldn't mind settling a grudge with his old friend from Stockton.
"You know, Nick Diaz is back in the picture and I was thinking about maybe after he fights Anderson Silva getting that shot at him," Condit told Albuquerque's KRQE News. "Doing a rematch and kind of settling the score."
Condit defeated Diaz via unanimous decision (48-47, 49-46, 49-46) at UFC 143 to become the welterweight division's interim champion, but more than a few onlookers had it scored closer than that.
Ahead of the Woodley fight, Condit said UFC President Dana White informed him that Diaz had been offered the rematch, but turned it down.
"Nick, for whatever reason, I'm sure he's got his reasons, didn't take the fight," Condit said in March. "But in the future I would be interested in the fight. I think rematches are always intriguing, especially when they're close like that one."
Diaz faces former middleweight champion Anderson Silva Jan. 31 in the main event atUFC 183 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Given Diaz' schedule, Condit might need to start looking in Matt Brown's direction before long.
"I'm taking it easy," said Condit. "But if the UFC comes through with a fight I'll be ready to get into camp."
