JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police are hunting for at least four men who hijacked an Ethiopian family in the Johannesburg CBD at the weekend.
The brazen attack happened in full view of other motorists on the corners of Commissioner and Crown streets on Saturday afternoon and was filmed by CCTV cameras.
The footage has since gone viral.
In the footage, a VW Polo blocks the family’s car in the front, while an Opel Corsa parks behind it, preventing it from moving.
One robber then gets out of the car with an AK47 rifle and forces the family out of their vehicle.
At one point, a person can be seen falling onto the ground.
Inner City Gazette’s Moses Moyo says this is the fourth such incident in the area in the past two months.
The police’s Obakeng Mabaso says the suspects not only speed off with the car, but also an undisclosed amount of money.
