Captain America: Civil War Has Already Made $678 Million At Worldwide Box Office

Captain America: Civil War, which opened this week in the U.S. and last week in a number of foreign markets, has already cracked the top five highest-grossing films of the year with a $678 global box office haul.

The film, based loosely on the controversial comic book miniseries by Kick-Ass and Kingsman creator Mark Millar, earned more than $180 million this weekend in North America for the year's biggest opening, and helped push Disney as a whole past the $1 billion mark at the domestic box office so far in 2016.

By this time next week, the movie has an outside chance of catching up to Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which has earned about $865 million worldwide, but with almost $200 million to make and a foreign market that's in its third weekend, that might be a big ask for one week. It's very likely, however, that the movie will surpass Deadpool and The Jungle Bookat the worldwide box office, as each of those is between $80 million and $100 million above Civil War...and the movie will likely drop by about 50% at the domestic box office and earn between $75 and $90 million next weekend in North America alone.

With Zootopia ($956 million) wrapping up its theatrical run to prepare for a Blu-ray release in early June, it's likely that barring a steep dropoff Civil War could become the year's first billion-dollar blockbuster.

It's not gonna catch up to BvS in a week, that's ludicrous to even mention. It's obv gonna gross more than BvS though because it will have far stronger legs.

Have fans always cared so much about how much these movies make? People dont just enjoy the movie and look forward to the next installment anymore?

casual fans really don't care that much but it's good information to have to see how successful your fav franchise is.

Just got back and :banderas:

Best marvel movie ever. It's crazy how every Capt. America movie gets better ,while outside Ant Man and Guardians, the rest get progressively worst.

With all the great reception, it will have good legs and should hit a billion by the end of the month.

I haven't always cared but around 3 or 4 years ago, I got introduced to boxofficemojo and other box office watching sites and it became fun to track. I also got interested in the behind-the-scene aspect of moviemaking, like how films get financed, how foreign markets like China choose a film to import, and shyt like that. One of my fav movie review sites Double Toasted has a weekly recap of the box office, which furthered my interest in tracking how films perform vs their budget. It's a hobby now. Making guesses about which films will be surprise hits and which films will bomb is fun, especially for arm-chair movie executes like me.:yeshrug:And nothing was more fun than last years box office with Jurassic World and Furious 7 destroying at the box office and bringing Universal back as a competitor.

I don't let that get in the way of enjoying a film for what it is though, regardless of what it makes.

Nah. If you like the movies and the movies keep getting made, then as a fan, that is all the success that matters. Caring about marginal differences between the box office #s is fanboy garbage.

I am invested in the box office results on this particular film because the financial success and good word of mouth on this, the FIRST comic book film to essentially have three main black characters as stars in the ensemble, will help offset the bullshyt and totally ludicrous notion that films starring black protagonists will not do well overseas. Also the more Black Panther is supported the more confidences that Marvel
Will have in FULLY supporting the BP solo film...

So yes, I want this movie to skull fukk BVS into oblivion, I want this to be the top grossing movie of the year, I want a $250 Million dollar budget for Black Panther solo film. I want Marvel to have faith in making Falcon the new Captain America (as he is in the comics) I want Rhodey to be seen as more than Tony's sidekick.

I read your post about the film and it was on point.

Not only did they give Black Panther a GOAT introduction, they really elevated Rhodey and Sam, especially Sam.

Right from the opening scene, I was like damn Falcon ain't playing around. Plus he didn't just blindly follow Cap this time.

With Coogler directing, I have faith in the Black Panther solo film.
