Gesus, Cannes ain't playing this year because that list of directors is practically a Greatest Hits compilation.

In any other year I'd say Michael Haneke's Happy End about the European refugee crisis starring Isabelle Huppert would be a total shoe-in but he's actually got some interesting competition here. Hazanavicius' first feature length film since The Artist (and a Godard biopic too), you got arthouse heavy hitters Ozon, Haynes and Coppola in there on top of festival-made directors like Ramsay (We Need To Talk About Kevin), Mundruczó (White God), Lanthimos (The Lobster), Zvyagintsev (Leviathan), Baumbach (Frances Ha) and Campillo (Entre Les Murs) and then you got Bong Joon-ho sitting in the cut. He's pretty much the odd man out here (mostly because Okja is a monster adventure movie) but of course, he's also Bong Joon-ho and he strolls into end year lists like it's nothing.
