According to manager/co-trainer Edison Reynoso, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (43-1-1, 31KOs) would have no problem with facing Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) for his WBC middleweight title.
While Cotto has the middleweight title, he came in at 155-pounds during June's weigh-in for his middleweight debut against Sergio Martinez. Canelo also weighed in at 155-pounds for his last two fights.
With Canelo being the physically bigger man, Reynoso doesn't expect any issues with weight when the two camps sit down to negotiate the terms.
Before anything, Canelo will return to action on December 6th or December 20th, against an opponent to be determined and then Cotto will defend his title on December 13th. Provided both win, the two camps are very interested in making a fight for May of 2015.
“It seems that everything is working out for May [against Cotto],” Reynoso said. “We want to fight Cotto and we want the title of the World Boxing Council that he has. For now Saúl will remain at 155-pounds, and I don't believe that Cotto [can get up in weight to] 160-pounds, [so weight] would not be a problem. But for now we first have to determine the fight for December and then we'll see what happens next."
