I don't think there's a simple stock answer to that. I bought ableton initially because of the Scene mode, and the whole idea of triggering clips on the fly seemed exciting to me. Once I had it for a while, I didn't really make a lot of use of that. So I went in and studied the manual and checked some youtubes, and once I started to wrap my head around the program I found that it was crazy flexible, in terms of audio and midi routing, effect racks, drum racks, audio warping, audio to midi and so on. Once I saw how flexible it was, then I started having my own ideas of how to flip it. I'm still wrapping my head around it, its a deep piece of software. But my guess is people like the flexibility it offers. I've watched a lot of different workflows, and people use it in all kinds of ways.

I think it really serves people who are interested in experimenting and taking a deep dive into it. If you just want to make your standard radio trap stuff, Ableton might seem a little off, because its not so intuitive for that.

in my experience with ableton, i was in love with it until i had to use fl studio when i joined this production crew. I realized that while i made more songish tracks on ableton, more variation and automation but mostly effects, ableton had a edm oriented sound that made my stuff come out too clean. I went back to fl studio and noticed it just sounds grimer off the bad, it honestly sounds worse but at the time i was tryna do trap and i couldnt find the sound i wanted with ableton. Some of my best music i made on ableton, however i wish i stuck with fl studio because it has soooooo many more indepth tools than ableton, imo. Ableton is good for the intricate routing and warping, importing and mixing stuff but fl is more intuitive for just making beats. In fl i feel more in control, everything is laid out to help workflow.

Really ableton is kinda better in that its more intuitive and open, but fl keeps things concise after like 15 years of DAW domination. Its like mac vs windows, mac is ableton. Fl has tons of problems, but its just so straightforward its good when you are making hip hop.

word, i dont really know how to describe it but fl studio is just so much better. I just need to learn how to record in fl studio without having to make a super long pattern, i wanna jus press record an have what i play recording into the pattern but not looping until i stop recording, if you get what im sayin

if u use the legacy pattern blocks in the song view, just put a blank pattern block further down the track.

EDIT: nevermind u still gonna have a long ass pattern

yea thats what im doing now but its lame. What i do these days is i try to make a song instead of pluging in an clicking, cus i make really cool melodies off the top of my head an i figured out how to quantize well. I do like how when it loops while ur recording you can just play over what you already recorded. Im tight tho i spilt water on my maschine yesterday an my pads have been going out one at a time :sadcam::sadcam::sadcam:

Recording is a bit sloppy, its color scheme can make it hard to navigate, some say it naturally doesn't sound as clean as other daws, bad for mixing, pattern based sequencing is limiting, not the most CPU efficient,
Lastly some of the mixing plugins are god awful.
