Can WWE legends/veterans/long time faces go back to being heel?

So I had a convo with a friend of mine that started from the comments made from Bret Hart about Cena not being able to be a heel.

My friend basically believes that after you've been in the WWE (especially as a face) for a long time, you can't go heel. So Cena & Sheamus cant go heel. And if guys like Rock, Stone Cold, and Undertaker came back as heels it wouldnt work out. Even guys like Triple H and Ric Flair, who spent most of their careers as heels, couldn't turn heel. It just wouldn't work.

And while I disagree, I do think it's alot harder as time goes by.

But it's been a decade since he's been one. Who knows if he can pull it off anymore.

Alot of times when somebody who was turned faced and stayed that way for a while, they're heel turn doesn't really work out. Alot of times, they lose their edge or what made them a great heel in the 1st place.

Stone Cold's 2nd heel run is a great example of this. It's wasn't nearly as good as when he started out as a heel. He lost his heel edge. Same with The Rock. While I enjoyed his run as Hollywood Rock, I could never buy into him as a heel. Same with HBK. And Y2J.

So how do we know that it won't happen to Cena & Sheamus? For all we know, their 2nd heel runs could bomb like the guys I mentioned.

So what is your take on this? Do you agree or disagree?

I don't think guys like Rock, Austin, Undertaker could ever be a heel again. Their not around every week so fans are going to cheer for them anytime they're on regardless.

I think HBK has always had the ability to go from face to heel and be really good at it. When he came back from the injury as the commissioner people were in love with him, but then he quickly started shytting on DX and made me wanna kill him. He went back off TV for a while after that when someone kayfabe put him through a car windshield after a brief reunion with DX. I don't think they got their money's worth out of that heel turn, because DX was at their peak and HBK was the salty founder jealous of their success.

I was referring mostly to when he was with the NWO and when he was going against Hogan.

Sheamus can turn heel again... he's only been a face for less than two years. Cena can turn heel, and he probably will at some point- but it won't be while they have no one else as their definitive top face. Cause the truth is that even the people booing him now would change their tune soon as he turned.

But people like Rock, Taker, Austin? Hell naw. A friend of mine once said anyone can turn heel just by shyttin' on the fans, but I disagree cause Rock went Hollywood and people booed him for about MAYBE a month. I guess they could TRY, but it's just not gonna work.

look at the Undertaker- when he became the deadman biker he became a heel

Depends. Flair got to a point where no one wanted to go against him but they did shyt on him when he call Cripple H the best during that Evolution stuff. Taker? I think they would rather be silent than go against him. Austin? That doesn't even make sense. Rock? He always has that Hollywood key switch that can be manipulated but how long would it work? Fans aren't gonna stick with it because he's a top 3 name in history. You can get guys like Cripple H over as heel via Undertaker or even CM Punk in 2011 had they did the right thing and turned him and then Punk should of went over. No one wants to cheer for Stephanie. Fans instantly become apathetic whenever she gets involved and him defending her honor isn't a good look.
