Can we talk about how INSANE it is that the NFL is still using CHAINS in 2016?

With all the technology being used to "get it right" in football and every other sport, the biggest league of them all is using the combination guesswork and manual labor to judge first downs.

I'm actually regularly impressed at how good the refs are at spotting the ball...but is there really no technology to improve the accuracy even a little bit?

i always wondered if they could put some type of mini-chip on the ball
would track it's location at all times :yeshrug:

I don't even think that's necessary. I don't know exactly how StatCast does the magic it does in baseball, but it knows EVERYTHING about the baseball lol. Spin rate, location, trajectory....

But the chains are more accurate than the eye and technology being used for a proper spot of the ball, FOLLOWED by an analog measurement tool makes the most sense
