I like to make beats at night but now I got kids in the house so looks like I need a pair of headphones in the meantime.

I assume I should be looking for the flattest headphones possible for mixing purposes?

Help me out brehs.

i mean, i think open-backs are better for mixing but closed are better for beat-making/production. :yeshrug:

i dunno what you're budget is but off the rip, if you're focusing on the mix-side of things i'd go with beyerdynamic 990s. i love those joints. i'd recommend them to anyone, no matter what they're down to spend.

I used DT-990's for about 10 years than i switched to the DT-880. (The 990's don't have much mids while the 880 has lows, mids & highs on the same level)

I would go with the DT-880 Pro. They are the most trustable. (And semi-open seems to be best for mixing to!)

Been reading up on reviews and a lot of folks are saying exactly what you said. That semi-open kind of sold me. The only thing I hate is that you can't detach the cable and it's coiled.

honestly tried all the recommended shyt n read a whole lot. ended up figuring out to just trust my ears. obviously having quality headphones is a start but you also have to know and get used to their individual sound signature.

I worked on Sennheiser hd25 headphones for years so I could accurately tell where my mixes sat with them. I have been using the dt 770 for about 6 months and still have yet to fully learn their sound signature... even when they say headphones are flat they all have some of their own characteristics.

open and semi open are def great for mixing but you can't use them in public spaces or noisy spaces... I gotta block out these kids lol

Yeah that's the thing that put me off them. Could see me breaking them in a month lol. Ended up going for audio technica instead. Like how they fold too

I got other headphones for public use. These are specifically for night time use after the kids are asleep. When they're awake, I'm blasting my monitors.

when it comes down to it, whatever you choose, you're gonna have to learn them and how they translate to other mediums/speakers/platforms/etc.

just make sure you're monitoring at fairly low (and taking some breaks). blasting headphones for hours on end will fukk your ears up. :francis:

can only give second hand advice on this.

get some flat ones like you said. but the main thing is to reference a lot of music so that you know what music is suppose to sound like from them. so in that sense, it doesn't really matter that much what you get (within reason of course)
