How does it work with online applications?

Lets say you wanna work for a large corporation and you know somebody who is the head of its Canadian subsidiary, do you think a referral from him would be useful in trying to obtain a job in America...or is it really a toss up?

what I know at my company which is a pretty big company is that it really counts toward nothing :manny:, just that the person who refers gets some $$, fewer if it's a contract and more if it's larger.

every place is probably different thoguh

What kind of job is it?
That's pretty good if you know a leader/corporate person
Its an independent Investment Management firm...think along the lines of Wellington, Invesco and Legg Mason....

I'm out here in Toronto and the position I'm applying for is located in the company's HQ building down in the southern states.

The dude I'm using as a referral is big though, Portfolio Manager + the head of Canadian Equities. Been @ the company for 15 years as well.
