I want something for basic office, vmware work.

I want to spend a bit under 500 bucks and be pretty powerful

What can I get? I'm think i5-10400, 16 gig 2400 DDR4, SSD + TB hard drive

but want something that looks good, no dusty looking cases...

Help me out with this.

I think you're going to need to spend more than $500 for what you want.
Or at least be willing to go with a different processor. CPU and Motherboard is going to eat up half your budget. You will have 200 or less to get a PSU, RAM, storage, a cpu cooler and case. That's asking a lot.

PCPP isn't accurate for pricing because some parts won't have listed prices or are unavailable. It's best used for compatibility guidance. Other than that, get familiar with the filters.

Completed Builds

I can't say how well any of those would work with what you're trying to do, but 9 pages of build specs is a lot better to go through than the alternative.

Think of how much storage you need right now. Maybe you can get away with only a 500gb ssd for 50 dollars and add later when you have more room in the budget.
