Thoughts? Exercise recommendations?

I've heard it can make you lose speed but surely there has to be a way to improve your runs through muscle building.

id say it can help if you also continue with sprints and building explosion through pylometrics on the side

but if you just lift and dont train for speed :manny:

I ran today for the first time in about 6 weeks since hittin the weights hard. My legs were done insta-quick. No idea if that was due to more mass in the legs or the fact I've not done much cardio in 6 weeks.

Your question is too general, is this for you personally? And if so, what are your goals?

I jog 4 miles or so pretty regularly. My only goal is to stop my damn legs from falling asleep toward the end of the jog every time, even when I'm not particularly out of breath. I feel like that limitation is keeping me from going farther. I've been stretching more and everything.

Falling asleep?

Sounds like you have circulation problems, do you keep hydrated (during x-exercise) and do you wear compression tights/pants?

No on the compression pants.

Not sure about the hydration. I keep hydrated throughout the day...but I'm not sure if I drink a lot leading up to the run. Makes me feel heavy.

If anything, dehydration will make you feel like a ton of bricks due to poor circulation/cramping. I'd drink a gallon or more a day.

After HS, I started weight lifting and can't even dunk anymore. My speed and agility went down too. I try to keep what I have left through pick up games, box jumps, sprints, and jump rope.

If you look at the pro athletes..those dudes are animals. Size and athleticism:sadcam:

Regarding athletes, not necessarily. Especially dudes who have to run a lot (soccer players, basketball players). All that shyt kinda gets in the way.

I was fastest on my bike when I was like 30lb lighter. Muscle mass is good up to a point, but for a lot of activities it can become a setback early.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't sprinters usually have bigger legs while marathoners have slimmer legs/mass? I guess it all depends on the OP's ultimate goal, which I believe is to go "further", so I'm not sure if mass is what you're looking for exactly. However, a weight training program aimed at higher repetitions, along with super sets, and plyometrics would be my recommendation. Conditioning is all you need kid.

I'm sure others will object, but that's my 2 cents.
