From what I read, Apple is in this for the long game, they can wear Netflix down

On the other hand they haven’t been able to fully dominate Spotify with Apple Music in the Audio department, so trying to take down Netflix is not going to be an easy task and I don’t see it happening anytime soon

Apple has unlimited money to throw, but Netflix isn’t any slouch either, we have all heard about these crazy deals they offer to Hollywood stars

the key to winning will be original content, in other words why should I go with your service vs all the other options. HBO had Game of Thrones that was really a life saver for them and kept them in the streaming game, they have a longer history than these other services in the original content department (the wire, sopranos, etc)

so far I’ve only seen a trailer for the Apple show “See” starring Jason Momoa

Apple needs to sign big name actors to exclusive deals to draw in crowds, kind of like how they had Dre and Drake signed to Apple Music. Somebody told me they secured Steven Spielberg, that’s a start I guess, although I haven’t heard much from him in a while..

Too early to say, depends on content. Spielberg & J.J. Abrams are directing projects. Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carrell, Alfre Woodard, Oprah, Jason Momoa, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Octavia Spencer, and more are all starring in productions. If anything they have too many big names and not enough actual info to go off of, as was said they haven't done the best job showing the projects off. I get you need big names to get it off the ground but from the beginning it's seemed like "we'll blind you with the names and fill you in later" type rushed.

Apple's giving away a year free for every new iPhone, iPod, iPad, Mac or Apple TV bought this fall. Ppl aren't upgrading as often but they're still upgrading, I could see them having at least half the subs Netflix has in 2-3 years. Might as well count every iPhone sale as an TV+ sub. We're not even talking about it being crazy cheap at $4.99 yet. But again, all depends on the content.

Good point about converting Apple iPhone and iPad users to the service, that’s a huge chunk of the population, I think if they integrate it well into the IOS software, people will start to feel as if they “need it”, ie one button sharing movie/show playlists, maybe being able to stream shows and movies together over phones or iPads within a chat room or FaceTime environment etc...,the key to winning the streaming war for Apple definitely lies in converting the users of their products over to subscribers

You caught me before the edit but yeah, let's not count the rest of Apple's hardware bc it doesn't move as well as iPhone. 2018 4th quarter Apple shipped 47 million iPhones, all they have to do is repeat that and it's basically ~47 million TV+ subscribers for one quarter. There's more demand for this year's phones and add in the other hardware, you could be looking at half of Netflix's total base in one window.

I don't think the service is worldwide at launch so it wouldn't be exact but you get it, it's a shyt ton of eyeballs very quickly. They need content to keep everyone glued, only reason everyone isn't calling a home run like Disney is bc of this. Their formula's basically a cheat code, they have no one to blame but themselves if it doesn't work.

All of these streaming services are supposed to take on Netflix yet no one ever asks if they'll just cannibalize each other while trying to do so.

It's already been forecasted that a lot of these tech companies that have popped up even outside of streaming won't be around in 10 years. They'll all get bought out and consolidated into 2-3 entities.
