if you are in a calorie deficit and arent lifting

you will lose both muscle and fat, how much depends on your current bodyfat percent and how muscular you are

the amount of muscle that can be lost is more than most would think(especially if you are obese)

your weight is simply the sum of your fat, muscle, bones, organs, etc. like MMS said, you will lose weight as long as you have a calorie deficit. but that weight could be fat or muscle. you could eat nothing but junk food and still lose weight cause you consume less calories than maintenance (although that's rare cause junk food is typically very calorie dense).but if you want to lose fat while retaining muscle, exercise and protein are a must i think.

Yeah of course...your weight is based on calories...working out gives you the muscle tone and makes it a lot easier...but weight isn't as important as to how your body is composed...you want lower bodyfat with a good mix of muscle and bone density

So of course you will lose weight if you take in less calories but it will be easier when combined with a strength training resume and cardio sessions

Technically, it is possible, but in reality, I disagree. Proper diet will basically maintain your current state without working out, but if you want to LOSE, gotta do cardio b, and lots of it.

but how do you explain when folks lose weight through stress?

Or are you just talking about losing weight and looking toned?

Talking about losing weight and looking toned. You can also lose weight by smoking crack, but I wouldn't recommend it.

cardio is just one way to create a calorie deficit, but it isnt the only way :youngsabo:

a calorie deficit is the only proven quantity in cutting

all these fad diets may gloss over it, but in switching the kinds of food you eat to "clean" foods you probably are taking in less cals than you were prior, and if that number is sufficiently beneath your maintenance voila weightloss

only reason why i dont explicitly support cardio is because people believe if they run for 1-2 hours a day they can still eat like slobs :leon: dont believe the hype
