dude's a monster . moving up the ladder of best players I've ever witnessed personally
him and Larry are the top receivers in the game imo. they are a tier above everyone else. i really wish Arizona would invest in a real QB and an offensive line. why'd u have to re-up with that bum ass franchise Larry?
The Detroit Lions' season is essentially over in terms of them making the playoffs, but there is still a lot to play for, both on an individual and team basis. The team needs to show it hasn't quit and put together a strong finish to build momentum for next year. On an individual basis, many players will be fighting for future jobs in the final weeks of the season, while others will be gunning for much more than that.
It goes without saying that Calvin Johnson is in the latter of those categories. Actually, he may need his own category -- one for those who are threatening the NFL record book. Specifically, Johnson is currently in position to threaten the NFL record for most yards receiving in a single season, as pointed out by Pro Football Talk. Jerry Rice set the record in 1995 by recording 1,848 yards receiving, and Johnson is currently on pace for 1,828 yards.
Remember back at the end of October how we were concerned about the effect injuries were having on Johnson's production? Well, he has put those concerns to rest since then. Johnson has looked like Megatron and then some in the last four weeks:
Week 9 - at Jaguars - 7 catches, 129 yards, 0 TD
Week 10 - at Vikings - 12 catches, 207 yards, 1 TD
Week 11 - vs. Packers - 5 catches, 143 yards, 1 TD
Week 12 - vs. Texans - 8 catches, 140 yards, 1 TD
Johnson is now averaging 114.27 yards per game this season. He currently has 1,257 yards receiving, and his current pace would leave him only 20 yards short of Rice's record. If he keeps playing like he has as of late, the final weeks of the season could be very interesting simply for the history that Johnson might have a chance to make.
