SAN BERNARDINO - A 38-year-old Cal State San Bernardino graduate student exhibited "superhuman strength" as he resisted campus officers before he was fatally shot, police said Sunday afternoon.
The student, identified as Bartholomew Williams, 38, was shot five times Saturday night by two Cal State San Bernardino police officers in the University Village student complex as backup officers from the city of San Bernardino were speeding toward the campus, San Bernardino Police Chief Robert Handy said at a news conference.
"This is a tragic day for the Cal State San Bernardino community," said CSUSB President Tomas Morales, who also was at the news conference "Words cannot express how truly saddened we are at this time. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and our thoughts and prayers go out to all who knew him."
