Chicago cop who killed black teen, neighbor files $10 million suit against teen's estate
A white Chicago police officer who shot and killed a 19-year-old black man, along with the teen's neighbor, the day after Christmas has filed a lawsuit against the teen's estate.
In the lawsuit, Officer Robert Rialmo argues that Quintonio LeGrier's actions caused the shooting, which also killed LeGrier's downstairs neighbor, 55-year-old Bettie Jones.
"The fact that LeGrier's actions had forced Officer Rialmo to end LeGrier's life, and to accidently take the innocent life of Bettie Jones, has caused, and will continue to cause, Officer Rialmo to suffer extreme emotional trauma," the lawsuit reads.
Rialmo seeks compensatory and punitive damages of more than $10 million.
"The actions of the LeGier (sic) were criminal, done in a willful, malicious and wanton manner, and showed a depraved and callous disregard for the rights and privileges of others, so as to make punitive damages appropriate and just," the suit states.
