Wolverine 3 will be the final time that Hugh Jackman portrays the titular character. To many fans, Hugh Jackman practically IS Wolverine, and seeing him go is not going to be easy. However, since Jackamn leaving is inevitable, at least we can find comfort in knowing that Fox seems to be going all out for his final venture.
Besides a confirmed R-rating for the film, and rumors of X-23, Wolverine’s female clone, showing up, we now officially know who the film’s villain (or at least, one of the villains) will be. X-Men: Apocalypse released on DVD and Blu-Ray recently, and with it came some commentary audio from director Bryan Singer.
During the post-credits scene of the film, which features a briefcase from “Essex Corp”, Singer confirmed what many fans already assumed- the Essex Corp namedrop was indeed a reference to Mr. Sinister. Not only did he confirm that Apocalypse referenced Mr. Sinister, but he also confirmed the villain for an appearance in Wolverine 3!
For those who don’t know, Mr. Sinister is a mutant from the X-Men comic books. As you can probably tell by his name, he isn’t on the side of justice. He’s a scientific genius with quite a few mutant abilities, ranging from shape-shifting, to teleportation, to telepathy. Mr. Sinister actually gets his powers from experimenting on other mutants and their DNA, which is probably why Essex Corp henchmen were seen grabbing some of Wolverine’s blood in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Wolverine 3 has wrapped up filming, and is set to release in theaters on March 3, 2017. It will be directed by James Mangold, and star Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Richard E. Grant.
Not much is known about the movie, but it’s believed that the plot will have some elements of the iconic Old Man Logan comic book storyline.
