Bronx Target cracks down on stealing with age restrictions, no self-checkout
Bronx Terminal Target has implemented new restrictions, including an age-limit, in an attempt to curb shoplifting.

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A Target in the Bronx is trying to curb stealing by implementing new rules that include age restrictions, traditional check out lines and a roped-off makeup section.
A shopper first brought attention to these changes at Bronx Terminal Target in Concourse Village, south of Yankee Stadium, in a TikTok video that shows the new regulations posted on signs in the store and Target employees enforcing the new rules.
The original video that circulated has since been reposted by accounts like BusinessBlurb, which have been opening conversations among consumers about the Target experience.
In the video, a sign at the front of the store reads “All guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at this Target store.” The user also reported that employees were checking shoppers’ IDs at the door.
Self-checkout lines at the Target store are blocked off with signs that read “Self-checkout is currently closed. Team members nearby are ready to help you checkout,” the video shows.
Other changes include making customers buy makeup in a specific makeup section that is roped off, and having security check customers' receipts at the door post-purchase in order to take security tags off products.
These new regulations come less than two months after Target closed nine stores across four states, including New York, “because theft and organized retail crime are threatening the safety of our team and guests, and contributing to unsustainable business performance,” the company said in a statement announcing the Oct. 21 closures.
