Adrien Broner’s most recent homecoming fight in Cincinnati, Ohio, sold a total of 6,528 tickets for a card that saw the former three-division titleholder take a unanimous decision over Emmanuel Taylor on Showtime.
The 10-fight show at the U.S. Bank Arena on Sept. 6 also featured Lucas Matthysse beating Roberto Ortiz and Andre Berto defeating Steve Upsher.
The revenue for the event was $329,935, according to figures provided to BoxingScene.com by the Ohio Athletic Commission.
That’s an average of $50.54 in revenue per ticket sold. Tickets were listed at prices of $128, $78, $53 and $28. Another 1,184 people received comp tickets, bringing the attendance to 7,712. The announced attendance this past Saturday was 8,115.
A total of 120 tickets went unsold.
This represents a significant bump up in sales from Broner’s last show in his hometown.
The July 2012 card featuring a main event of Broner vs. Vicente Escobedo had 4,296 tickets sold and 300 tickets given away for free. The seven-fight card at the same arena brought in a total gate of $136,890.
Tickets for that card, which aired on HBO and also featured Keith Thurman vs. Orlando Lora, were listed at $128, $78, $53 and $28. The total gate reflects an average of $31.86 per ticket sold.
That means Broner-Taylor sold 2,232 more tickets and pulled in $193,045 more than Broner-Escobedo did, more than doubling the past gate.
