o read the English-speaking media, you'd never know that Bayer (BAYRY) just paid "tens of millions" of dollars to end a three-decade long scandal in which the company sold HIV-contaminated blood products to haemophiliacs, thousands of whom later died of AIDS.

I haven't seen ANY newspaper from the U.S. reporting on the issue (not even the haemophilia community published a statement) which I think is strange -- I mean, $50 million is not nothing. And this is the largest settlement on the HIV/hemophilia issue for more than 10 years (as far as I know), and two U.S. law firms negotiated it.
In 1997 Bayer paid ?300 million into a compensation fund for haemophiliacs with HIV. About 20,000 patients contracted HIV from the blood. You can read more detail on the new settlement here. Bayer's 2010 annual report is scheduled for Feb. 28. It will be interesting to see if Bayer puts any details on the settlement in that disclosure.

hiv doesnt only get transmitted through cuts/tears and blood brehs...nor is it a gay disease.. hiv gets transmitted through BODILY fluids...including semen and vaginal secretions......even breastmilk can give you hiv. Ive heard that saliva can also give you HiV...though its very hard to get it from saliva, but it is possible.

1. how hiv gets into female is by sleeping with a downlow brother
2. only way a guy can get it is from being on the downlow

3. hiv is going down because more gays are being responsible. and aids is more active in the gay community...WRONG..more heterosexuals have HIV then homosexuals

...you dont have to even see blood for you to get it. it could be microscopic tears that are unnoticeable. and im more incline to believe people would catch it from unnoticeable circumstances then from a women bleeding on her period.

There's a reason why the disease is so prevalent among gays, because the lymphocyte cells in the anus transmit the disease easily, UNLIKE the vagina.

As a man, you're not going to get it from heterosexual sex. As a woman, you wouldn't catch it from a man unless he got it fukkin around with men, or used contaiminated drug needles(which isn't as common). The most valid statement in this thread. The chances of men getting HIV through vaginal sex is slim, compared to women who can easily contract the virus from an infected man. It is prevalent with gay men because of the route of sex. The anus has broken skin, and mucus membranes that the virus can easily penetrate.

I use to work at a HIV clinic and 75% pf women who had HIV contracted it through rape or from men who have sex with men.
