one of my favorite De Palma movies, and ranks somewhere in my all times favorites.

The direction is so precise, so suspenseful, the jokes and nods at Hollywood, that sequence from Rodeo to the beach house tunnel, is just masterful.

The house in the hills

the music

of course the Indian thing is kinda hilarious. Done this a few times, but walked through what I am pretty sure is that same part of Rodeo, with an underground parking garage, and little shops above this year when I was there. It looks the exact same. The first time I noticed was 2020 and I was with a girl waiting for her car and looked around, like this is the valet area from Body Double! she had no idea what I was saying.

Good film and the Hitchcock influences really shine through. In particular Vertigo, much like the movie Basic Instinct. There's some Rear Window here too.

Sadly my favorite scene is the same as Patrick Bateman's. When the killer uses the excessively long drill bit, and the shot is between his legs like to drive the phallic symbolism home and her blood goes through the floor and falls and dude when he's fighting the dog:blessed: The whole scene is so over the top and in your face:dame:

Melanie Griffith played a good "Hooker with a Heart of Gold". She was genuinely funny in this movie, and brings what the movie was missing before her entrance.

I think I enjoyed the mystery more in De Palma's other movie Blow Out more. I liked the killer in Blow Out more too. I'll have to rewatch them sometime later and see which one I like the most.

If you liked Maxxxine you should watch this, Blow Out, and Crimes of Passion. Probably a Giallo too. If you want something more of a slasher watch Tenebrae and if you want more of an erotic thriller like Body Double watch The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh.

Blow Out is another classic

Melanie Griffith was phenomenal in Body Double; she was perfect for the role.

I haven’t seen Maxxxine yet but I’ll check it out

De Palma at his most perverted (aka De Palma at his best) :blessed: :mjlit:

This is probably my second favorite after Dressed to Kill. Blow Out is wonderful too.

Melanie Griffith had a dope run in the 80s right up to Pacific Heights but fell off a cliff after that, which is a shame because she should've had a Julia Roberts esque career. But I think she had a lot of drug problems and was difficult to work with.

Blow Out is just as good, Body Double get my attention more because of the LA setting Hollywood Hills glamour

The first scene he goes to a wildly over the top hot dog place, with a hot dog on the roof, and the next scene he is emasculated by finding his wife in bed with another men, pleasing her in a way he was not familiar with

Maxxine has a scene where she's entering the porn studio and there's a sign for PIPE LAYERS across the street

Obsession is an obvious homage to Vertigo. That’s worth checking out if you’re a fan of De Palma.

Blow Out is probably my favorite De Palma movie.
