Yankees general manager Brian Chashman has single-handedly darkened the outlook on third baseman Alex Rodriguez’s recovery from hip surgery, saying in an interview with NYC sports radio station WFAN (transcribed here via CBS New York) that Rodriguez could miss the entire 2013 season. Rodriguez is expected to only miss half the season and return shortly after all-star break, but the unpredictable nature of his injury and the recovery time could put him out for the entire season, according to Cashman. “Yeah,” Cashman replied when asked if there was a chance that A-Rod could miss the entire season. “I think because (of) the serious nature of the surgery and the condition that he’s trying to recover from, you know, there is that chance.” “Best case scenario, yeah he should be back,” Cashman said. “Worst case scenario is he won’t be back, or there might be something between.” Rodriguez has struggled for the Yankees in recent seasons, hitting .272 last year with 18 home runs and 57 RBIs.
